Blue Intern Tyler Hornaday poses in the Indianapolis office's kitchen break room

Tyler Hornaday is an intern in Blue’s Indianapolis office from Purdue University.

Hornaday valued being able to build connections with clients as if he was a first-year staff accountant. He notes that this aspect of the internship helped develop his confidence and refined his professionalism as a growing businessperson.

Hornaday credits his ability to grow his professionalism and client service skills as an intern at Blue to lead to a full-time job offer as a staff accountant.

Check out the transcript from our chat with Tyler below:

Blue & Co. (Blue)

How did your internship here align with your career goals and aspirations?

Tyler Hornaday (T.H.)

Well, I've been interested in accounting for quite a while now, and just being able to experience what an audit busy season looks like and what's all available for the accounting world, and getting to see all the different opportunities that go forward in my career has definitely been a great thing that Blue's been able to provide for me.

Blue

How did your internship with Blue differ from other internships you've had if you had otherwise?

T.H.

I would say the biggest difference is client communication. Blue just values letting me build my relationships and being able to visit with CFOs [and] controllers and just understand what is expected of me, and being able to create a professional atmosphere even as an intern.

Blue

How would you describe your relationship with your supervisor and your colleagues during this time?

T.H.

I've absolutely loved my relationships that I've built, and I would say that my coach reaches out to me just about weekly asking if there's anything that she can do for me. That openness and warmth has definitely been a great experience.

Blue

Would you consider working for Blue the future if that opportunity arose?

T.H.

Absolutely. I actually signed my offer with Blue just about two weeks ago, and it's been a great experience. I've gotten a lot of warm welcomes from everyone that I've told, so it's just been great.

Blue

Well, congrats!

T.H.

Thank you!

Blue

Can you tell me about the offer you signed and what you see in your future, and how your internship led to the offer that came your way?

T.H.

Yes, so I would say that what led to it was the relationships that I've built, the experience with clients, and just being able to grow as professional during the internship, and just being able to really experience that growth with a growing company is definitely exciting.
