In Kentucky, 20 percent of residents experience insufficient access to food and within that group, 20 percent are children.
That statistic is just one of the many reasons why this year's Summer Leadership Program community service activity was centered around providing food items to a local food pantry.
About the Summer Leadership Program Activity
As part of a team-building exercise, students were broken into teams and then tasked to make a mini-golf course out of non-perishable food items, including canned goods, ramen, peanut butter, jelly, and cereal.

Once the golf courses were finished, judges played the course. The courses were judged on how well their course met par, their creativity, and the difficulty of the course.

After declaring the winner, students sorted all the non-perishable items into boxes and donated them to Be Concerned, a local food pantry in Covington, Kentucky.
About Be Concerned
Be Concerned's mission is to ensure that the people of Northern Kentucky have access to essential items, while also fostering an environment that preserves their humanity and dignity. Be Concerned strives to provide families with healthy, fresh food that ultimately allows for a healthier lifestyle.
Be Concerned’s main food program is called the Choice Pantry Program. This program allows monthly visits to the pantry, where customers can pick out 60-70 pounds of canned goods, pasta, bread, cereal crackers, milk, eggs, frozen meat, and fresh vegetables.
During summer months, Be Concerned works with the farmers nearby to provide fresh vegetables in the summer. They also have four other food services including:
- Senior Food Delivery
- College Student Food Delivery
- Homebound Food Delivery
- Emergency Food Assistance
In 2020 alone, they served 6,746 people in more than 2,900 households.

About the Summer Leadership Program
Blue’s Jumpstart Summer Leadership Program is a two-day, expenses-paid retreat where college students (freshmen to juniors) can learn more about our company and public accounting roles.
The leadership program is a great opportunity to:
