Stephanie Morton is a Brand and Data Marketing intern from Ball State University working in the Carmel, Indiana Blue & Co. location.

Stephanie’s Background

I am a born and raised Hoosier from Carmel, Indiana, preparing to enter my senior year at Ball State University. I am currently majoring in media production with minors in media promotion/management, journalistic storytelling, and theatre creations. My journey into the world of marketing consists of multiple twists and turns, ultimately leading me to my current position at Blue & Co.

I am someone who has always loved being creative. Throughout elementary and middle school, I spent hours drawing, painting, and filming using cameras I found around the house. Once I reached high school, I discovered a newfound appreciation for journalism, graphic design, and photography through my participation in my high school's yearbook staff. When it ultimately came time to pick a major in college, I didn’t exactly know how to condense all of these passions.

After landing a position as my sorority’s Public Relations Chair during my sophomore year of college, I began to further understand the importance of promoting a brand and creating an online presence. I had finally found a way to utilize all of the skills I was able to practice and gain over the years, which are all essentials in marketing. From that moment forward, I made it a goal of mine to work on balancing my creative skills with strong foundational management skills in order to be the best marketer I could be.

Finding My Way to Blue & Co.

As I sat down this summer to search for internship opportunities, I thought to myself: What do I want to learn? What skills do I want to build upon? What am I hoping to get out of an internship? With these questions in mind, I found exactly what I was looking for with Blue & Co.

When I came across the internship opportunities available at Blue, I instantly felt drawn to apply. As I continued to learn more about the company and their values throughout the interview process, I admired the kindness and professionalism they displayed. I knew that this was somewhere I wanted to work. I value that they challenged me in ways I hadn’t been in previous interviews to have a deeper understanding of who I am as a marketer.

Upon receiving my offer call, I was absolutely ecstatic and couldn’t wait to begin. I feel as though this is one of the most important aspects when it comes to finding the perfect internship; knowing how you feel when you do score the job. The truth is, opportunities find you when you least expect them to. It may take months of applying, editing your LinkedIn profile, and interviewing, but opportunities that are meant for you will not pass you by.

A Day in the Life of a Brand and Data Marketing Intern at a Roadshow Event

My typical day-to-day work schedule varies based on what kind of projects I am working on and the promotional needs of the marketing department.

Most recently, I had the opportunity to join the marketing team for the launch of Blue Pioneer Consulting, a joint venture between Blue & Co., LLC and Pioneer Technologyan IT firm based in Chattanooga, TN.

In preparation for the brand launch, I educated myself on the goals of Blue Pioneer Consulting, helped assemble materials, and learned more about the importance that marketing plays in the success of announcing a new brand.

To experience the launch firsthand, I joined the team as they embarked on their roadshow. The roadshow stopped at Blue & Co, office locations spanning across Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. I had the opportunity to attend stops in Indianapolis, Seymour, and Carmel, Indiana.

The first roadshow was in Indianapolis. Upon arrival, I immediately asked where I could help and proceeded to pass out branded marketing collateral, pens, phone charging cords, and other promotional items. Following this, I had the opportunity to watch the Blue Pioneer Consulting presentation. Lastly, I assisted in clearing the extra supplies and ensured all tasks were completed. Following the roadshow event, I headed home to continue working virtually on other assigned marketing tasks.
